History
Cleardrop was established in 2001 by David Crowe. Cleardrop was recently incorporated, thus becoming Cleardrop Ltd. Company registration details can be found on Contact Us.
Who are Cleardrop?
At its heart Cleardrop is a one man operation that works with other specialist individuals and firms as and when projects require. By working this way and because no two projects are the same, Cleardrop is able to assemble project teams specifically tailored and focused for each individual project.
David Crowe has a BA(Hons) degree in Design from the Colchester Institute and has specialised in digital media design, in particular web design, since 1998.
What do we do?
We mostly design web sites, and are equally at home designing sites that meet strict web standards or that use Flash frivolity. However, we also produce CD-ROM's, DVD's, presentations and all other forms of digital media. We combine high quality design, 3D/2D animation, video and audio to create original creative solutions for multimedia or new media projects. Basically, if it's something you view on a screen there's a good chance we can design and implement it for you. Cleardrop can also design logos, corporate identities and provide solutions for print design. Examples of our recent work can be found in the Portfolio section.
How do we do it?
In terms of website construction, we adhere to the following criteria whenever possible;
- Compliance with web standards and accessibility guidelines
- Content with semantic, structured page markup using XHTML
- Style separated from the content and markup using CSS
- Behaviour separated from the content and markup using unobtrusive JavaScript
- Considered and practical use of Flash and other technologies
More information on why websites should be built a certain way can be found in our Support section in the article Web Design Best Practice.
For CD-ROM's we always try to ensure;
- Platform independence - making content accessible on both Windows and Macintosh
- Flash encoded video - requiring no software installation for video playback
- Resolution independence - scaling of elements to eliminate ugly black borders
Why do we do it like that?
From the beginning, Cleardrop's philosophy has always been to never make things more complicated for clients or end users than they need to be. We apply this philosophy to the design, programming, structuring and construction of all our projects and also apply it to the way in which Cleardrop is run. Coupled with this is the desire to use the latest technologies with modern design and provide clients with products that not only satisfy their criteria, but that give that something extra.
